Ġulja Holland
Ġulja Holland (born 1990, Malta) is a figurative painter based between Malta and London. She graduated with an MA in painting from the Royal College of Art in 2021 and obtained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Leeds Arts University in 2015. Recent exhibitions include London Grads Now 21, Saatchi Gallery, ‘When Your Voice Shakes’ Holland’s third solo exhibition held at Studio 87, Valletta, Malta (2021), ‘Currents’, Desko, Valletta, Royal College of Arts Degree show, Cromwell Place, London (2021) ‘Together through Painting’, London Paint Club (2021), Another Work is Possible (online) Snapshot, Hockney Gallery, London (2020).
Last year she was selected for the London Paint Club Best of 2021 artists and for the Maltese Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme 2021. Holland has recently been awarded an artist residency with PADA Studios and was shortlisted for the solo residency at Unit 1 Gallery, London. In 2020 Holland was shortlisted on an episode of the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Program 2020 during which received much praise for her portraits. Earlier this year she was chosen by the program's esteemed judge Kathleen Soriano to show at a retrospective Portrait of the Year exhibition running at the Compton Verney gallery till the 5th of June. The exhibition features a shortlist of artists selected for their marked talent and personal style.
