META Foundation is looking for an Architect to be involved in the design of the Gallery Reception and Retail area of the Valletta Contemporary Gallery, Valletta. The project brief requires to explore a design solution for a formal front of house / reception arrangement, with a separate display area for Gallery related merchandise. The call reqiures the initial design process to be processed in close interrelation with the Gallery management. Structural interventions are intended to be kept to a necessary minimum. The call for services further includes all detail design, mechanical and electrical planning, BOQ’s, procurement assistance, coordination of trades and supervision of the execution requires altogether with the project coordination. The envisaged design ought to be innovative, modern and contemporary in style. The following services are to be offered by the interested Architect, and will only be awarded together. 

 

•   Phase 1: Initial Design Phase:

The Architect is to hold initial as well as regular meeting with the Gallery management in order to set out the requirements as well as conduct the process of the initial design phase with an approach of ongoing communication.

At this phase, the Architect is expected to produce functional diagrams, plans and visual material which helps to communicate the design progress and will lead to a finalised design solution.

Following the conclusion of this design process and the approval of a design solution, the Architect is required to produce a basic cost estimate for the chosen design solution.

 

•    Phase 2: Detail Design and Procurement:

The Architect is required to produce dimensioned drawings of all parts of the project as well as drawings of specific details if and where required to aquire precise quotations and to allow for exact production; structural calculations and drawings if and where required; the implementation, planning and coordination with the design of mechanical and electrical services; the production of BOQ’s for all trades, the evaluation of the tender returns and assistance in the drawing up of work contracts between contractors and the Gallery.

 

•    Phase 3: Project Management and Site supervision:

 The Architect is to prepare a program of works and organise the coordination of all trades on site. Regular site inspections, meetings, and workshop visits on behalf of the Foundation are expected to be carried out. Strict quality control is required. The assistance of the Architect with the final certification of works as well as the certification of payments is required.
