FINISSAGE: BEFORE THE WORK THERE IS "I"
Artist discussion + drinks
24 Feb 2024 | 18:00 - onwards
Entrance is free
Valletta Contemporary is excited to invite you to the closing of Maxine Attard’s solo exhibition, Before the work, there’s “I”, in the form of an intimate interview with the artist and discussion of the exhibition’s questions by a panel of artists including, George Mario Attard, Tom van Maldaren, Ryan Falzon and Teresa Sciberras followed by drinks, on Saturday 24th February 2024 at 6pm.
Few contemporaries would publicly declare that artists are dangerous, and yet, the iron fist on their chests reveal another reality: that the artist is dangerous and the gallery (almost) killed the artist. But there is no art without the artist, no gallery without the artist. Without existence of the artist, the “I” before the work, the “I” that is chronically estranged by hollowing conditions, the art system collapses.
In this scope, the panel will address the imminent questions posed by the exhibition, of the conditions of the artist and the system in which they conform or contract, exist in or are ostracized from.
