Charles Balzan

Charles Balzan is a Maltese artist who works conceptually as well as with installation, photography, etching and drawing. Balzan is a self-trained artist, coming from a background in graphic design and his interests range across philosophy, art theory, poetry and history. Balzan has participated in several exhibitions, such as /ru:t/ (2014), where he won a national prize with his installation CORE, as well as NUD (2019) and X-Posed (2019) which was held at the Art Academy in London. His book Not Alone—an intimate exploration of his immediate family—was published by EDE in 2017. Balzan’s current project utilises photography to explore the intimate rawness of primal states and his work seems to be moving towards a synthesis of his two photographic projects—the intimate and the primal. His work has been written about by the likes of Ramona Depares, Teodor Reljic and Eve Cocks.
