Alex Attard
At our gift shop, Valletta Contemporary represents one of our artists: Alex Attard

Alex Attard was born in Valletta, into a family who has been in photography since 1913, Alex Attard is an art and architecture photographer driven by a passion to discover the beautiful and the extraordinary, inspired by not only the obvious, but also by the ordinary, the overlooked and the inconsequential.
He was initiated to photography at the family studio, where he acquired and practised his initial photography and darkroom skills. Due to other life commitments, he did not pursue his love for the art, until, in 2007, after a hiatus of over twenty-five years, he felt the urge to pick up his camera again. He studied the art of the digital print as he strived to equal the visual expressive qualities of film through this new medium.
His body of work, "The Overlooked Performance", chronicling unconscious behaviour and recording the ephemeral art beneath the face of Renzo Piano's Parliament for Valletta is, arguably, one of his more acknowledged, contemporary photographic expressions.
His innate sense of creativity and the very personal interpretation of his subjects, have won him critical acclaim at the highest level and his work has been awarded by some of the most recognised experts in the industry. His photographs have been featured in renowned international magazines like Archdaily, iGNAT, ElleDecor and others.
